How it works

Every platform leaves fingerprints: a generator tag, files served from its own CDN, a response header, a cookie. The detector loads the homepage and matches those signals. A platform is confirmed when we find a signal only that platform leaves, and marked likely when we only find hints. If the page gives nothing away, we ask the WordPress REST API directly, which catches headless WordPress sites.

When it says “custom built”

If no CMS or builder leaves a fingerprint, the site is probably built with a framework and its own content, or a proxy strips the usual signs. The framework and hosting sections often still show how it's put together.

Why the platform matters for SEO

  • It tells you what's easy to change: Webflow and Framer control the HTML, WordPress plugins control most SEO settings, headless sites depend on their developers.
  • It explains common problems: page builders that bloat HTML, JavaScript frameworks that render content in the browser, themes that duplicate H1s.
  • It tells you how content gets published, which decides how much of your SEO work can be automated.
